New smartphone tour in historical Leiden in Holland

Watch and listen to episodes from the history of Leiden. You can click on any of the locations to find out more about them. Most of these places are on the Leiden Loop tour. You can also find these locations on the map. All of the physical information panels will be placed on the route by mid March. This is the online site for smartphones.
Number 9 in the tour is a 3D animation made by Infofilm/Museummedia of a dramatic explosion. On august 3th 1807 (300 years ago at time of writing) a cargo ship carrying 18.000kg of gunpowder exploded in the city center of Leiden. More then 200 houses were leveled, 151 dead and more then 2000 wounded. By studying reports and paintings dating from that time alot of information was gathered about which houses and trees where destroyed. The city archives provided detailed drawings of the ‘before situation’, those drawings were used as textures for the houses.
