Cinemafia yesterday at Jean Rouch Symposium in Paris

The short documentary ‘CINEMAFIA’ was screened yesterday at the Symposium on Jean Rouch (French filmmaker and anthropologist) of the ‘Comité du Film Ethnographique’ from November 14 to 20 in Paris. CINEMAFIA was very much appreciated. Rouch is considered to be one of the founders of the cinéma vérité in France, sharing the aesthetics of the direct cinema in the US pionered by Richard Leacock,D.A. Pennebaker and Albert and David Maysles. Rouch’s practice as a filmmaker for over sixty years in Africa, was characterized by the idea of shared anthropology. CINEMAFIA is a cinema verité portrait of Joris Ivens and Henri Storck filmed by Rouch, Roger and Robert Busschots and Dirk Nijland. More info on http://www.comite-film-ethno.net.
Ce bonus consiste en une conversation à trois et à bâtons rompus, enregistrée par Jean Rouch et offerte dans la continuité, sans aucun montage. Répondant aux questions de leur ami et collègue documentariste, Joris Ivens et Henri Storck évoquent la présence de la mer dans leurs oeuvres, leur unique réalisation commune (Borinage, en 1934) et leur admiration partagée pour Flaherty. La ballade de ces trois copains, enregistrée le plus naturellement possible, a le charme des vieux souvenirs émus. ES
